Accumulate 70 points minimum (84 points maximum) before moving onto “B” level.

REQUIRED "C" LEVEL CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENTS:

Activity C1: Watch the video on The History of Rock 'n Roll: Episode 1 in class or online. Then make a blog post on this page or on a piece of paper you give to Ms. Snyder listing 5 specific historical items you learned from watching it. Do NOT include your personal opinion about the video or the music -- stick to the facts! (Due 1/20/17)

Don't forget to sign your blog post by either logging in or you can post anonymously and sign with your first name and last initial at the end of your post.

EXAMPLE OF A GOOD POST: "I really enjoyed this video.  I learned that Mozart was famous by age 5 and toured all over Europe.  His father was a huge influence in his life, although they really didn't get along very well.  Although he was pretty successful, Mozart died very poor because he partied too much and was irresponsible."  Tess S.

This post lists 3 very specific and clear things that are important historical facts about Mozart's life, and would receive full credit.

EXAMPLE OF A POOR POST: "This video was boring and I could hardly stay awake.  Mozart wrote lots of songs, was married to a chick called Constanze, and wore crazy wigs. He also worked for some royal king who was a real jerk." [no signature]

This post is inadequate because it doesn't list anything that is really important about Mozart as a musician. Specifically, the personal opinion is not appropriate and should not be included.  Of course Mozart wrote lots of songs or we wouldn't be studying him in class. Instead, you could name one of the famous pieces he wrote and something about the piece, such as why it was written or for whom it was written. Instead of just giving Mozart's wife's name, give her name and state why she was important to him and how she influenced his career or compositions.  Wigs are interesting but not important, unless you relate that back to a character trait that helps define his music or career.  Who was the royal jerk he worked for and what was their relationship? Lastly, IF YOU DON'T SIGN YOUR POST YOU DON'T GET CREDIT!

ACTIVITY C2: Listen to the lecture and complete the guided notes. If you miss the lecture, print out the guided notes and use the internet to fill in the blanks or ask another student for help. If you sit in class and don't write anything down during the lecture, you will not get credit, as it will be obvious that someone else would be doing the work and thus you would be CHEATING!  (Due 1/13/17)

ACTIVITY C3: Fill out an Artist Information Sheet (blanks can be found in the classroom or can be printed from this website) for one (maximum of two) of the following artists: (Due 1/27/17)
  • Jerry Lee Lewis
  • Fats Domino
  • Bill Haley
  • Chuck Berry
  • Hank Ballard
  • Little Richard
ACTIVITY C3: Watch one of the following movies about 1950’s rock stars and complete a Movie Biography worksheet:

  6. I found the video to be great in the way that they interpreted the artists. I enjoy a lot of different music, but I learned about artists I didnt even know. Jerry lee Lewis was a rockabilly who wrote many hit singles. a popular song Sh-Boom came out in 1954, this song I know plays in an older movie called Cry Baby.

  8. I learned about artist from the 1950's that I've never heard of before, like Jerry Lewis who was a rockabilly rock artist. I learned more about Elvis like how they thought his hip shaking was profound.I also learned how people talked about the artists back then, most people didn't like rock and roll and was against it but older generations hated it but the youth of then thought it was the best thing ever.
